I am going to start this post by saying that I realize that there are many other thing about this person that might turn people off. I do not want to focus on those things. What I want to focus on is his integrity and success in the world of show business.
I am talking about actor, Will Smith. I would go as far as to make the claim that he is the nicest man in Hollywood.
My amazement to his kindness started out when he released the song “Just the Two of Us.” He was the first rapper (and frankly the last) that I have heard keep ALL of their songs clean and with a positive message. The song I just referenced is one of the sweetest songs about his son. I used to listen to it over and over again. It is seriously adorable. For those who haven’t heard it please listen below!
I have watched him in the acting world and I have noticed another thing. Jada has been by his side for a long time. While researching this post I learned they have been married for 18 years! In Hollywood that is astounding! They admit they have had their ups and downs (who hasn’t?) but they have made it far longer than most.
The ability to sustain his marriage certainly says something about his character! He clearly is a devoted husband and father and that brings him far!
Lastly, the thing that sealed the deal for me was something he said on an interview with Jimmy Fallon. I was so impressed I knew I had to sing his praises. And here we are. He said:
“…You just keep loving people. The thing is to make sure with your art your art is a gift to people to help their lives be better and to be brighter.’ And what happens a lot of times is you’ll see people fail in this business is they’re in there for their ego and they start doing it for them. And it’s like no, it’s like you’re trying to help people just get through a day. And you do it really well.”
For this to come out of a stars mouth really is amazing to me. It is so awesome to hear someone say that they do it for their fans and genuinely mean it. He is so right about ego and how it is ultimately a person’s downfall and he has done an amazing job keeping his ego at bay.
I wish I was as nice of a person as Will Smith. I really want to commend him. As a tribute to him I want to ask all my bloggers to do something nice for one other person this week and comment about what you did!
Happy Monday everyone!
I will be the first to admit that many of my life decisions has been influenced by TV and movies. Is that irresponsible? Probably. But I am sure this will continue to happen my entire life. That being said, many of my “dream jobs” were a result of a TV show or movie and most of which were pretty unrealistic. I came across this article and realized that I had so much more to add. So as we look ahead to Monday at our real jobs I wanted to take a look at the jobs I am sure many of us wish we had thanks to Hollwood.
Movie Trailer Maker- as seen in the Holiday.
This job not only seems glamorous but clearly Amanda Woods makes quite a good living doing it! Oh and who wouldn’t love to live down the road from one of Hollywood’s greats? Can you say job perks? If I could work in the Entertainment industry I would be in absolute heaven. But I live in New England completely across the country from Hollywood and I am nowhere near talented enough for this amazing job. But Hollywood makes it seem so attainable!
Did I mention how much I would love a vacation on a whim?
Bounty Hunter- as seen in One For the Money.
I like to think of myself as a pretty bad ass girl. So the idea of making money by taking someone down for a crime they committed seems awesome. Plus she got to hunt down a guy she had the hots for. But what Hollywood fails to mention is most of the people you are hunting down are not going to also turn around and protect you. Plus the hazards of the job are certainly not worth the pay.
Professional Event Planners- as seen in She’s Out of Your League
I think by now anyone who reads my blog knows I love planning things. I like taking themes and putting together something fun. I like to make the person I am planning the thing for smile. That is why an event planner sounded like an awesome job to me. Problem is, you need to have contacts with all the right people and get all the right prices. Oh and did I mention you can’t make a living with just family and friends? This might be a fun job but without a lot of hard work and networking making a living out of it would be a bit unattainable.
I’m certain those looks help with networking!
So bloggers as we all head to our 9-5 jobs this week, what dream job did Hollywood make you want?
In a world where many people are facing so much insecurity it is generally refreshing to see someone confident and sure of themselves. That is why Jennifer Lawrence is one of my favorite actresses. She is down to earth, confident and really doesn’t care what the popular opinion is about her. This is definitely the type of role models Hollywood should be providing rather than the Lindsay Lohan wannabes that seem to be flooding our media.
However, is there a such thing as too confident? Recently there was an epic twitter battle with Kanye West and Jimmy Kimmel because Kanye West referred to himself as a “genius” and Jimmy Kimmel went on his show to parody it. The video featured a few kids speaking the exact words that Kanye used. The video set Kanye West off and a fight ensued. I wanted to share the video on this blog post but it appears it has been taken down. This however furthers my point, is there a such thing as being too confident?
When Jimmy was defending his spoof he said : “I don’t know if you know this, but a lot of people think you’re a jerk,” Jimmy said. “When you said you’re a genius, I think that upsets people. But the truth is a lot of people think they’re geniuses, but nobody says it because it’s weird to say. But it is most certainly more honest to say, ‘I am a genius.’
Jimmy has a really good point here, a lot of people may think they are a genius but saying it out loud makes you seem a bit cocky. Its great to be confident but to be rude about it becomes another thing. At least that is what Jimmy seems to feel. However Kanye has a different view:
““I’m totally weird and totally honest and I’m totally inappropriate sometimes,” Kanye said. “And the thing is for me not to say I’m not a creative genius I’d be lying to you and to myself.”
Here is where I am torn. I am all for honesty. I believe it is better to hurt someone with the truth than to comfort them with a life. But in matters like this, isn’t it all a matter of opinion? I mean Kanye is not waving around an IQ test that scientifcally proves he is a genius. Rather he believes he is one because he has been successful in his endeavors thus far. And while I say good for him I also say, does the world really need to hear about it so bluntly? Can’t his critics and fans sing his praises? Why does he need to be the one to toot his own horn? Its just seems a little excessive to me.
But in this day and age so many people are battling their own demons they really do need to be able to look up to someone who loves themselves and isn’t afraid of it. I just don’t know when too far is too far. Bloggers what do you think?
One thing I know for sure is this girl has the right idea 🙂
